Flipkart Internet, the marketplace arm of Flipkart, has reported a revenue of Rs 17,907.3 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a 21% YoY growth. The company also managed to reduce its losses by 41% to Rs 2,358 crore. Flipkart Internet's revenue primarily comes from seller commissions, advertising, and other fees for seller services. In the previous fiscal year, the company earned nearly Rs 5,000 crore from advertising, surpassing various marketplace fees. The focus on profitability and organizational restructuring have contributed to the company's growth and reduced operating costs. Meanwhile, Amazon India is preparing to launch its quick commerce services in the country by the first quarter of 2025.

Amazon India’s marketplace revenue has continued to outpace Flipkart Marketplaces, with collections from its platform and related services crossing the Rs 25,000 crore mark and registering an adjusted EBITDA of Rs 588.6 crore in FY24. However, Flipkart’s top-line growth was significantly higher than that of Amazon Seller Services during the fiscal year ending March 2024. Amazon India’s revenue from operations grew 14.5% to Rs 25,406 crore in FY24 in contrast to Rs 22,198 crore booked in FY23, its standalone financial statements filed with the Registrar of Companies show. The entity generated 82.4% of the revenue from marketplace services while the remaining came from the services rendered to related parties including platform services, marketing, and royalty revenues. The firm also generated a non-operating income worth Rs 186.8 crore, pushing the overall revenue to Rs 25,592.8 crore in FY24. Amazon Seller Services is engaged in marketplace and marketing support services. Its ultimate holding company is Amazon.com, Inc., which is based in the United States of America. Moving over to the spending, delivery charges were the largest cost element forming 25.8% of the total expenses. The cost went up 9.1% to Rs 7,487.9 crore in FY24 from Rs 6,863.1 crore in FY23. Sales promotion and legal cum professional costs were the other two significant elements which formed around 12% each and stood at Rs 3,586.1 crore and Rs 3,530.2 crore, respectively, in FY24. During the year, Amazon Seller Services spent Rs 2,771.2 crore on employee benefits which also include share-based payments (ESOP cost) of Rs 682.7 crore. Amazon India marketplace arm’s total expenses increased 6.5% to Rs 29,062.3 crore during FY24 from Rs 27,283.6 crore in FY23. In the end, the company managed to control its losses by 28.5% to Rs 3,469.5 crore in FY24 as compared to Rs 4,854.1 crore in FY23. Its operating cash flows also turned positive to Rs 724.1 crore during the last fiscal year against Rs -1,542.1 crore in FY23. It is worth noting that the company reported an EBITDA loss of Rs 94.1 crore in FY24, excluding the ESOP cost (non-cash expenses), the company turned profitable on the operational level with an adjusted EBITDA of Rs 588.6 crore during the year. The highlights of the improved bottom line can also be seen in the EBITDA margin which strengthened to -0.37%. On a unit level, Amazon’s Indian entity spent Rs 1.14 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in FY24. The entity’s rival, Flipkart's marketplace arm reported Rs 17,907 crore in revenue with 21% YoY growth while the company’s losses shrank over 40% to Rs 2,358 crore in FY24.

Flipkart receives another $262 Mn from Singapore-based parent Flipkart Internet (India), the marketplace arm of the Walmart-owned firm, has received another $262 million (Rs 2,225 crore) in internal funding from its Singapore-based parent entity. This comes nearly two months after Flipkart Internet received $382 million from its Singapore-based parent company. The board at Flipkart has allotted equity shares worth Rs 2,225 crore to Flipkart Marketplace Private Limited (Singapore), its multiple filings accessed from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) show. This follows around the same time Flipkart’s fashion platform Myntra India received $125 million from its Singapore-based parent, FK Myntra Holdings. Media reports indicate the firm plans to launch its IPO with a valuation of $60-$70 billion. It is shifting its Domicile from Singapore to India, joining Pine Labs, Zepto, Meesho, and Razorpay in relocating their headquarters back to their home country. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Walmart owns 85% of Flipkart Internet, which includes its affiliates PhonePe and Myntra. Other shareholders include Tencent, CPP Investments, GIC, SoftBank, and Microsoft. Flipkart is currently valued at $36 billion. For the fiscal year ended 2024, Flipkart reported a 20% growth in operating revenue to Rs 17,907 crore, while reducing its losses by over 41% to Rs 2,359 crore during the same period.

Online trucking platform Blackbuck has released its quarterly report for the financial year ending March 2025. The Bengaluru-based company reported a 31% year-on-year growth in scale in Q4 FY25 and turned profitable, posting a profit before tax (PBT) of Rs 41 crore in the quarter. For the full fiscal year (FY25), Blackbuck’s operating revenue increased 44% to Rs 427 crore in FY25 from Rs 297 crore in FY24. Revenue from its truck operator services was the primary source of revenue, accounting for 98% of total operating revenue. The company also made Rs 15 crore from interest income which took its overall revenue to Rs 137 crore in Q4 FY25, compared to Rs 99 crore in Q4 FY24. For the full fiscal year, the firm’s total revenue stood at Rs 462 crore in FY25. Looking at the expenses, the employee benefit cost accounted for 35% of the overall expenditure which fell 74% year-on-year to Rs 33 crore in Q4 FY25 from Rs 128 crore in Q4 FY24. Depreciation and other operating expenses were key overheads that drove total expenditure to Rs 95 crore in Q4 FY25, compared to Rs 187 crore in the same quarter last year. For the fiscal year ending March 2025, the firm’s total expenses fell to Rs 371 crore as compared to Rs 483 crore in FY24. Blackbuck booked profit before tax of Rs 41 crore in Q4 FY25, as compared to a loss of Rs 87 crore in Q4 FY24. Meanwhile, for the full fiscal year ended March 2025, the company remained at a loss of Rs 283 crore (before tax), 69% more than Rs 167 crore in FY24. Blackbuck debuted on the stock exchange at Rs 208.90 and is now trading at Rs 459 on May 27, bringing its total market capitalization to Rs 8,180 crore.

E-commerce enablement SaaS platform Unicommerce continued its growth trajectory over the last quarter, reporting a 73% increase in revenue and 18% jump in profit. The company’s revenue from operations rose to Rs 45 crore in Q4 FY25 from Rs 26 crore in Q4 FY24, according to its financial statement sourced from National Stock Exchange (NSE). For the full fiscal year ending March 2025, Unicommerce’s revenue rose 31% to Rs 135 crore. Including other undisclosed income, its total income for Q4 FY25 grew to Rs 46 crore, up from Rs 27.7 crore in Q4 FY24. On the expense front, employee benefits remained steady at Rs 16 crore in Q4 FY25. Server hosting costs declined 28% to Rs 1 crore from Rs 1.4 crore, while depreciation and amortization rose to Rs 4 crore. Finance costs stood at Rs 1.5 crore during the quarter. Overall, Unicommerce’s total expenses for the quarter increased 71% to Rs 41 crore from Rs 24 crore in Q4 FY24. Annually, total expense increased to Rs 116 crore in FY25 from Rs 92 crore in FY24. At the end, the Gurugram-based firm reported a 16.4% spike in its profit to Rs 3.35 crore in Q4 FY25 as compared to Rs 2.88 crore in Q4 FY24. On a fiscal basis, the company’s profit increased 34.3% to Rs 17.6 crore in FY25 from Rs 13.1 crore in FY24. Since its public listing in August 2024, Unicommerce has seen significant growth in market capitalization, which now stands at Rs 1,321 crore. As of May 5, its share price closed at Rs 128, up from the listing price of Rs 108. The stock reached its 52-week peak of Rs 264 in August last year.

Foodtech and quick commerce platform Zomato on Monday released its financial results for the fourth quarter of the ongoing fiscal year (Q4 FY24). With the steady expansion, the company has witnessed around 27% increase in its profit along with marginal growth in revenue. Zomato’s revenue from operations grew 8.3% to Rs 3,562 crore in Q4 FY24 in contrast to Rs 3,288 crore in Q3 FY24, as per the firm’s consolidated financial results sourced from the National Stock Exchange. With this, Zomato’s overall revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2024 jumped 71% to Rs 12,114 crore from Rs 7,079 in FY23. Zomato operates several business units including a food marketplace, Hyperpure and quick commerce platform BlinkIt. Income from food and delivery biz accounted for 48.8% in Q4 FY24 which grew 2.1% to Rs 1,739 in Q4 FY24 from Rs Rs 1,704 crore in Q3 FY24. The collections from Hyperpure supplies (B2B) and quick commerce vertical (Blinkit) grew 10.7% and 19.4% to Rs 951 crore and Rs 769 crore, respectively. Earning from “Going-out” and other non-operating income took Zomato Group’s overall revenue to Rs 3,797 crore in Q4 FY24. The cost for delivery and related charges formed 30.7% of the overall expenditure which increased 4.7% to Rs 1,118 crore in Q4 FY24. Its cost of procurement, employee benefits, advertising, and marketing pushed its overall expenditure to Rs 3,636 in Q4FY24 from Rs 3,382 in Q3FY24. The optimum cost mechanism and increased scale helped Zomato to record a 26.8% hike in its profits to Rs 175 in Q4 FY24 from Rs 138 crore in Q3 FY24. On a unit level, the Gurugram-based company spent Rs 1.02 to earn a rupee in Q4 FY24.

Nat Habit’s revenue grows 80% in FY24, losses remain flat Nat Habit, a personal care startup focused on fresh and natural beauty products, recorded an 80% jump in revenue during the fiscal year ending March 2024. Despite the strong growth, the company’s net losses remained largely unchanged during the same period. Nat Habit’s revenue from operations increased by 80% to Rs 72 crore in FY24 from Rs 40 crore in FY23, according to its financial statement sourced from Registrar of Companies (RoC). Founded by Swagatika Das and Gaurav Agarwal in 2018, Nat Habit offers Ayurvedic personal care products such as shampoo, face wash, moisturiser among others. Sale of these products was the sole source of revenue for the company during the said fiscal year (FY24). Advertising remained the company’s largest cost center, rising 38.5% to Rs 36 crore and accounting for nearly 40% of total expenses. The startup also incurred Rs 14 crore in employee benefits, more than doubling from Rs 6.5 crore in FY23. Raw material costs increased to Rs 12 crore, while transportation and other operating overheads stood at Rs 11 crore and Rs 18 crore, respectively in the said fiscal year. Overall, the company’s total expenses rose 65.5% to Rs 91 crore in FY24 from Rs 55 crore in FY23. Revenue growth outpacing expenses led to losses remaining flat at Rs 17.75 crore in FY24 as compared to Rs 17.6 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -24.65% and -21.58%, respectively. The firm spent Rs 1.26 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in FY24, compared to Rs 1.38 in FY23. The Gurugram-based company recorded current assets worth Rs 58 crore in FY24 which includes Rs 41 crore in cash and bank balance. According to TheKredible, Nat Habit has raised a total of approx $16 million of funding till date, having Peak XV Partners, Fireside Ventures and Whiteboard Capital as its lead investors. The company’s co-founders Swagatika Das and Gaurav Agarwal together own 33.1% of the company. In FY24, Nat Habit bought back about 6 lakh shares at a price of Rs 250 each, aiming to better manage its ownership structure and create more value for shareholders. At the same time, the company increased its authorized share capital sharply from Rs 3.51 crore to Rs 29.3 crore, possibly to prepare for future fundraising.
