Snippets EMO Energy raises $6.2 Mn in Series A round Energy-tech startup EMO Energy has raised $6.2 million in its Series A funding round, led by Subhkam Ventures along with participation from the existing investor, Transition VC. The Bengaluru-based company had previously raised $1.43 million from Sat Industries and others. The proceeds will be utilized to scale its 2 and 3 wheeler energy solution to over 1 lakh vehicles over the next two years, strengthen its R&D capabilities, and expand the team to meet growing operational demands, EMO Energy said in a press release. Co-founded in 2022 by Sheetanshu Tyagi and Rahul Patel, EMO Energy is a deep energy-tech startup focused on enabling mass EV adoption and decarbonizing urban energy. Its proprietary technology stack, ZEN, provides ultra-fast 20-minute charging, fireproof designs, and over 3000 charging cycles, making it a benchmark in safety, efficiency, and performance. The company’s battery systems are designed for electric two- and three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and large-scale energy storage, with applications across multiple industries. According to EMO Energy, it aims to empower the urban energy landscape through its advanced battery software and hardware. Its patented technology, ZEN, comprises an AI battery management system, active thermal management, and machine learning battery life extension algorithms, which can cater to mobility and energy storage, unlocking a multi-billion-dollar addressable market across electric two-wheelers, light commercial vehicles, and industrial green energy storage systems. Over the last 12 months, EMO states that it has forged critical high-volume partnerships across major OEMs and is now well-equipped to scale from 2 to 2000 kWh. It is creating an ecosystem where dark stores and commercial establishments will have EMO-enabled delivery vehicles powered by its fast chargers and energy storage systems, all managed by an integrated energy management software. EMO Energy claims that it has already deployed over 2,000 battery packs in the mobility segment and is executing production-ready pilots for ESS aimed at providing peak shaving/backup and replacing diesel generators in industrial and commercial settings. Some of the startup’s clients include Kinetic Green, BigBasket, Domino’s, and Blinkit.

Marquee angel investor Yashowardhan Shah also participated in the round. The proceeds will be used to expand its footprint in mobility through higher power chargers with wide bandgap semiconductors for fast charging stations. It also plans to enter new sectors like solar and hydrogen with its solutions for high frequency inverters and DC-DC converters application. Founded in 2022 by Rajesh Sura and Teja Kumar, Dynolt develops power electronics solutions for clean energy sectors such as e-mobility, energy storage, renewables, and hydrogen. In the e-mobility space, Dynolt claims to have deployed more than 14,000 power converters across the country which have collectively surpassed more than 30 million charging cycles. It enables efficient control of the power converters using embedded software and makes Dynolt’s products scalable and reusable across various domains expediting product development cycles. The Bengaluru-based startup’s clients include EMO Energy, Sandhar, Bounce, International Battery Company, Numeros Motors, Yulu, Yuma Energy, and River, which have adopted the company’s solutions at scale. The firm’s current product line includes power converters for on-board/off-board chargers for two- and three-wheeler EVs and swapping stations.

Electric scooter maker Ather Energy has raised Rs 286 crore or $34.5 million through debt and equity. This is the first round of investment for the Bengaluru-based company this year. Stride Ventures invested Rs 200 crore via debentures while co-founders of the company Tarun Sanjay Mehta and Swapnil Babanlal Jain pumped in Rs 43.28 crore each via Series F preference shares, its regulatory filings accessed from the Registrar of Companies show. Ather Energy raised its second-largest funding worth Rs 900 crore ($108 million) from existing investors Hero MotoCorp and GIC through right issue in December last year. In the same month, Hero MotoCorp also acquired an additional 3% stake in Ather for Rs 140 crore (approximately $16.8 million). Recently, a media report said that Ather is in talks to raise $95 million in a pre IPO round. Another report added that Ather’s existing backer Sachin Bansal has sold a significant portion of his stake in the company to Zerodha’s co-founder Nikhil Kamath. As per TheKredible, Ather was valued at $750 million during the Series E round in May 2022. However, it has not disclosed its valuation since then. It’s likely to get unicorn status in the upcoming round. Ather has raised around $450 million to date. According to the startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Hero MotoCorp is the largest external stakeholder followed by Sachin Bansal, Caladium Investment, and Tiger Global. Ather’s revenue from operations surged 4.36X to Rs 1,784 crore in FY23 while its losses spiked 2.5X to Rs 864.5 crore in the same period. The company is yet to file its financial results for FY24. Electric two-wheelers saw a 50% drop in overall sales in April when compared to March. Ather Energy, which sold 17,000 units in March, saw 4,000 units sold in April. Ola Electric sold over 33,000 units, contributing about 50% to the overall sales in the last month.

The total funding raised by the Bengaluru-based startup now stands at $4.02 million. The proceeds will be used to scale up manufacturing and expand its team. Founded in 2019 by Animesh Kumar Jha, Volt14 focuses on developing silicon-based anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. It has also developed an in-house cylindrical battery cell format demonstrating energy density enabled by its silicon anode. Volt14 claims that its technology increases silicon content in anodes while maintaining performance levels and is currently being evaluated by multiple battery cell manufacturers. According to market research, the lithium-ion battery sector is projected to exceed $300 billion by 2034, driven by electric vehicle adoption and energy storage expansion. Blume Ventures, the lead investor in this round, is also one of the early backers of Battery Smart, which is the most funded startup in the space.
