DoTs arm finalising new draft On D2M broadcasting and standards

The Telecommunications Engineering Centre (TEC) in India is nearing completion of a draft report on direct-to-mobile (D2M) broadcasting and its associated standards. D2M technology allows users to watch live TV content on their mobile devices without the need for a cellular data connection. The report will provide insight into whether India will adopt ATSC 3.0 standards for D2M broadcasting. However, concerns have been raised about the lack of global adoption of ATSC 3.0 and the potential cost implications for smartphone makers. The government sees D2M technology as a means to achieve convergence in content delivery and plans to conduct a pilot project to test its viability. The adoption of D2M technology could have a significant impact in India, where there are currently over 800 million smartphone users.
