The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) plans to conduct India's first comprehensive nationwide household income distribution survey in 2026. A Technical Expert Group (TEG) has been formed to oversee this initiative. Despite over seven decades of survey experience, the National Sample Survey (NSS) has not yet conducted a comprehensive income survey. The TEG, chaired by Dr. Surjit S. Bhalla, will finalize the survey’s design, methodology, and study international practices.
