Following a flat scale in the fiscal year ended March 2024, gadget and wearables brand Noise saw its operating scale decline by 24% in FY25. However, the companyโ€™s bottom line turned positive during the period, supported by a deferred tax gain of Rs 47 crore. Noiseโ€™s revenue from operations declined 24% to Rs 1,048 crore in FY5 from Rs 1,384 crore in FY24, its annual financial statements accessed from the Registrar of Companies show. Founded in 2014 by Amit and Gaurav Khatri, Noise offers smartwatches, wireless earphones, and speakers via e-comm platforms as well as its own website. It also commands a significant share of the smartwatch market. Income from the sale of wearables was the sole source of operating revenue for the firm in the last fiscal year. The company earned Rs 17 crore from non operating sources, including interest on current investments, which pushed its total income to Rs 1,066 crore. For the gadget and wearables brand, the cost of material procurement was the largest cost centre, which accounted for 68% of overall expenditure. This cost stood at Rs 725 crore in FY25 and declined 23% year on year in line with the operating scale. The firmโ€™s employee benefit expenses fell 12% to Rs 71 crore in FY25, including Rs 6.5 crore towards ESOP costs. Noise also cut marketing and advertising spend by 37% to Rs 180 crore. Warranty, freight, legal, and other overheads took the companyโ€™s total expenditure to Rs 1,067 crore in FY25, a 25% decline from Rs 1,417 crore in FY24. As operations scaled down in FY25, with both revenue and expenses declining by nearly 25%, and aided by a Rs 47 crore deferred tax gain, Noise reported a profit of Rs 3.2 crore. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 7.31% and 1.67%, respectively. However, the Bose-backed company remained EBITDA positive (Rs 18 crore). On a unit level, the Gurugram-based firm spent Rs 1.02 to earn every rupee in FY25. At the end of March 2025, Noise reported total current assets of Rs 467 crore, including Rs 81 crore in cash and bank balances. In April last year, global audio major Bose doubled down on its investment in Gurugram-based Noise and infused $20 million at a valuation of $470 million. This followed its initial $10 million investment in December 2023. Prior to this, Noise had remained a bootstrapped company. Noiseโ€™s competitor boAt reported operating revenue of Rs 3,073 crore in FY25 and returned to profitability with a net profit of Rs 60 crore during the period. The company is also gearing up for its public listing as it filed its updated DRHP to raise Rs 1,500 crore via initial public offering (IPO). The challenge of sustaining growth rates in the electronic wearables market is underlined by the sluggish period booth Noise and boAt have experienced in the past year. Brand building has failed to deliver the kind of premiums they hoped for, and competition from new offerings is always snapping at their heels. Outside of a few brands, the categories remain heavily commoditised as far as the mass markets go. Making it all the more worse is the varying degrees of dependence these brands have on ecommerce platforms, which, while they allow them to scale fast, are making it increasingly hard to gain market share. An IPO from the firms looks like a tough challenge in this situation, especially in terms of the valuations they are likely to get vis a vis expectations in say, 2022-23.

The board at Noise has passed a special resolution to issue 4,915 compulsory convertible debentures at an issue price of Rs 3,45,833 each to raise Rs 172 crore or $20 million, its regulatory filing sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) shows. The issued debentures will carry a nominal interest rate of 0.001% and will eventually be converted into equity shares at a later stage. The company plans to utilize the funds to cover operational expenses, expand, enhance brand visibility, meet working capital needs, and support other business activities as approved by the board, the filing added. According to Entrackrโ€™s estimates, the latest investment comes in as a flat round, valuing the company at $470 million โ€” a slight uptick from its Series A valuation of $460 million. For the uninitiated, Bose is the only external investor in Noise. Noise sells smartwatches, wireless earphones, and speakers through e-commerce platforms and its own website. The company also holds a major share of the smartwatch market. The fresh investment from Bose follows a major product milestone: Noiseโ€™s launch of an audio device powered by โ€œSound by Bose.โ€ Noise reported a revenue of Rs 1,431 crore with EBITDA profitability for the fiscal year ending March 2024. It competes with the consumer electronics brand boAt, which recently filed DRHP with the Securities Exchange Board of India under the confidential route. boAt reported Rs 3,122 crore of revenue during FY24 with a 45% reduction in losses to Rs 53.5 crore in the same period.

Its offerings cover the complete cost of education, including tuition fees, pre-visa expenses, travel, and other related costs. Interest income formed the bulk of its business, contributing 90.5% of total operating revenue, which grew 49.4% to Rs 478 crore in FY25. Fees, commissions, and other operating income collectively stood at Rs 50 crore during the year. Including other income of Rs 16 crore, Auxiloโ€™s total revenue reached Rs 544 crore in FY25. On the expenditure side, interest costs accounted for 71.5% of total expenses, rising in line with disbursements to Rs 282 crore in FY25. Employee benefits were recorded at Rs 56 crore, while overall costs increased to Rs 394 crore in FY25, compared to Rs 275 crore in FY24. The companyโ€™s controlled cost structure supported profitability, leading to a 62.3% jump in PAT to Rs 112 crore in FY25, against Rs 69 crore in FY24. Auxiloโ€™s expense-to-revenue ratio also improved to 0.75 in FY25. Earlier this year, Auxilo raised Rs 50 crore from Motilal Oswal. Since its inception, it has secured over $100 million across equity and debt. The company competes with other well-funded education-financing players such as Grayquest, Avanse Financial, Financepeer, Propelld, Leap Finance, and Eduvanz.

According to its consolidated financial statements sourced from the NSE, Nykaa's revenue from operations grew to Rs 2,061 crore in Q4 FY25, compared to Rs 1,667 crore in Q4 FY24. For the full fiscal year (FY25), Nykaaโ€™s operating revenue increased 24% to Rs 7,950 crore in FY25 from Rs 6,386 crore in FY24. The beauty segment accounted for 92% of the total revenue at Rs 1,894 crore, while the fashion segment contributed 8% of the operating income in the last quarter. For Nykaa, the cost of materials constituted 57% of its total expenditure, rising to Rs 1,153 crore in Q4 FY25. Additional spending on employee benefits, finance, marketing, technology, and other overheads brought the companyโ€™s total costs to Rs 2,031 crore during the quarter. For the full fiscal year ending March 2025, the total expenses rose to Rs 7,850 crore. Steady growth in its scale helped Nykaa achieve a 90% increase in profit to Rs 19 crore in Q4 FY25, compared to Rs 10 crore in Q4 FY24. For FY25, the firmโ€™s profit stood at Rs 74 crore in FY25 from Rs 44 crore in FY24. At the close of today's trading session, Nykaa's stock was priced at Rs 200.8, giving the company a market capitalization of Rs 57,406 crore.

Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ola Electric recorded a 26% decline in its operating revenue to Rs 1, 214 crore in Q2 FY25 when compared to Rs 1,644 crore in Q1 FY25. However, the firm registered 39% year-on-year increase in revenue from Rs 873 crore in Q2 FY24. In a shareholders letter, the company attributed the year-on-year growth to a 73.6% rise in deliveries, which reached 98,619 units during Q2 FY25. Revenue from its automotive segment stood at Rs 1,215 crore, while the cell segment contributed Rs 1 crore. The firm also registered Rs 100 crore from other income which brought its total income to Rs 1,314 crore in Q2 FY25. Cost of materials was the largest burn for the Bhavish Aggarwal-led firm which jumped 46.6% to Rs 1,072 crore from Rs 731 crore in Q2 FY24. On a quarterly basis, the cost declined by 18% from Rs 1,311 crore in Q1 FY25. During Q2 FY25, employee benefits expenses stood at Rs 139 crore while other expenses, including operational and administrative costs, contributed Rs 465 crore. The firmโ€™s total expenses for Q2 FY25 stood at Rs 1,593 crore, a 21.8% surge from Rs 1,308 crore in Q2 FY24. When compared on a sequential basis, the total expenses decreased by 13.8% from Rs 1,849 crore in Q1 FY25. Overall, the company posted a net loss of Rs 495 crore, a 42.65% increase from Rs 347 crore in the previous quarter (Q1 FY25). The losses were down by 5.5% year-on-year from Rs 524 crore in Q2 FY24. Among the venture funded companies, Ola Electricโ€™s closest competitor Ather posted Rs 339 crore of revenue with a net loss of Rs 183 crore in Q1 FY25. Its Q2 results are yet to be announced. The Tarun Mehta-led firm also filed its draft IPO papers in September. After consecutive declines in market share, Ola Electric regained traction in October, with sales increasing during the festive period. The company sold 41,605 units in October, which helped its market share climb to 30% in the last month from 27% in September. However, this figure remains lower than its earlier market shares, which were 32% in August, 39% in July, and 49% in June. At the closure of stock exchange on November 8, Ola Electricโ€™s shares were trading at Rs 72.72, nearly 54% below its peak of Rs 157.53 in mid-August.

The flight gross transaction value grew by 43% YoY, while the bus GTV increased by 46%. The companyโ€™s contribution margin also improved by 24% to Rs 91.08 crore in Q2 FY25, compared to Rs 73.67 crore in Q2 FY24, the company said in a stock exchange filing. However, the contribution margin as a percentage of revenue from operations slightly decreased from 45% in Q2 FY24 to 44% in Q2 FY25. The Gurugram-based company generated the majority (53.5%) of its operating revenue from train ticketing amounting to Rs 110.4 crore in Q1 FY25. Flight and bus booking services contributed 27% and 19.3% to the companyโ€™s coffers, respectively. The firmโ€™s operating expenses rose in Q2 FY25, reflecting increased investments in growth. Employee expenses and marketing costs contributed to this spike, which was necessary to support the companyโ€™s expansion in user acquisition and market penetration. Despite the rise in costs, EBITDA saw a sharp increase of 655%, reaching Rs 22.4 crore in Q2 FY25, compared to Rs 2.96 crore in Q2 FY24. Adjusted EBITDA also jumped 326% to Rs 20.99 crore in Q2 FY25. Ixigo profit after tax (PAT) declined by 51%, from Rs 26.70 crore in Q2 FY24 to Rs 13.08 crore in Q2 FY25. This decline was primarily due to a deferred tax charge of Rs 5.26 crore in Q2 FY25.

On the expense side, the cost of materials remained the largest component, which accounted for 62% of total expenses at Rs 444 crore in FY25. Employee benefit expenses rose 32% to Rs 90.35 crore, while selling and distribution costs stood at Rs 58.47 crore, and depreciation, travel, and other overheads pushed overall expenses to Rs 716.53 crore. The Peak XV-backed company cut its losses by 24% to Rs 48.25 crore in FY25, with ROCE at -14% and EBITDA margin at -3.86%. On a unit basis, it spent Rs 1.07 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in FY25. As of March 2025, the companyโ€™s current assets stood at Rs 276.17 crore, including cash and bank balances of Rs 42.39 crore. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Paperboat has raised $143 million to date from investors including GIC, Peak XV, Sofina Ventures, and A91 Partners. GIC holds a 25% stake in the company, while Sofina and Peak XV each own over 18%.

The beauty segment accounted for 91% of the total revenue at Rs 2,132 crore, while the fashion segment contributed 8.7% of the operating income in the Q2 FY25. For Nykaa, the cost of materials constituted 56% of its total expenditure, rising to Rs 1,292 crore in Q2 FY26. Additional spending on employee benefits, finance, marketing, technology, and other overheads brought the companyโ€™s total costs to Rs 2,297 crore during the quarter. Steady growth in its scale helped Nykaa achieve 2.5X increase in profit to Rs 33 crore in Q2 FY26, compared to Rs 13 crore in Q2 FY25. For the six months ended September 2025, the companyโ€™s profit doubled to Rs 57 crore in H1 FY26 from Rs 27 crore in H1 FY25. At the close of today's trading session, Nykaa's stock was priced at Rs 246, giving the company a market capitalization of Rs 70,375 crore ($8 billion).
