Big Tech coalition seeks 12-18 month extension to comply with India's DPDP Act

The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), representing Big Tech companies like Meta, Google, Apple, and Microsoft, has requested the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to extend the compliance deadline for certain provisions under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. The group states that complying with these provisions would require significant challenges and structural changes for organizations. They argue that businesses would need to make fundamental changes to their technology architecture and conduct time-intensive data mapping exercises. The AIC requests coordination and harmonization to ensure a seamless transition for data principals, fiduciaries, and processors.
