Biden orders crackdown on selling Americans’ personal data abroad

President Joe Biden has signed an executive order empowering the US attorney general to prevent the transfer of Americans' personal data to countries of concern, such as China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. The order targets data brokers who collect an extensive amount of personal data, including health and financial information. The move requires various departments to establish new protections, including the creation of rules by the Department of Justice to counter the exploitation of personal data. The order also mandates other departments to secure health data and assess threats to personal data in the telecommunications services sector. However, it does not address the broader issue of the personal data market in the US, which lacks clear boundaries.
