Google's Bard chatbot now includes AI image generation, catching up to its competitor ChatGPT Plus. Users can prompt Bard to generate photos using Google's Imagen 2 text-to-image model. Google has positioned Bard as a rival to ChatGPT Plus, but the lack of text-to-image features gave ChatGPT Plus an advantage. Bard's image capability incorporates a watermarking feature to indicate AI-generated images and includes safeguards to avoid generating explicit or offensive content. Google also released an experimental photo tool called ImageFX powered by Imagen 2. Bard has expanded to over 40 languages in more than 230 countries.

Meta has released a new AI image generator called "Imagine with Meta AI," built on its Emu image synthesis model. It was trained on 1.1 billion publicly visible Facebook and Instagram images and can generate unique images based on written prompts. Previously, this technology was only available within messaging and social networking apps. The new website requires a Meta account and generates four 1280x1280 pixel images that can be saved in JPEG format. Meta claims to only use publicly available photos for training, so setting photos to private should prevent inclusion in future AI models.
