The software industry group BSA The Software Alliance has advised the Indian government to avoid a one-size-fits-all approach when regulating deepfakes. BSA, which includes Microsoft as a client, argues that business-to-business and enterprise software services pose different risks compared to consumer-facing platforms. They propose considering content authenticity solutions instead. The government plans to amend regulations for deepfakes under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. BSA suggests incorporating measures like the use of watermarks and open-source standards for AI-generated content to promote transparency and combat misinformation.
