Kotak Mahindra Bank’s new darling: Mid-market corporate borrowers

Kotak Mahindra Bank's mid-market corporate segment has become a key focus area for the bank after being established as a separate business unit 1.5 years ago. The bank is adding about 200 new-to-bank (NTB) customers each year in this segment and aims for over 30% annual growth in customer assets. The mid-market segment consists of companies with annual turnovers of INR 500-1,500 crore. The bank created a separate unit to cater specifically to the product requirements of these customers, who often have ambitions of expanding globally and raising funds from capital markets or private equity funds. The bank also offers trade and transaction-banking services to mid-market companies, such as collections and payments. Kotak Mahindra Bank aims for the mid-market segment to comprise 10-15% of its wholesale book.
