Cropin, a global agtech company, has introduced an open-source micro language model called 'Aksara' for climate smart agriculture. Aksara enables the development of affordable and scalable AI solutions for the agriculture industry, specifically addressing the needs of farmers in the global south. The model was built on a foundation model from Mistral and fine-tuned using Cropin's internal knowledge base. It has been designed for crops and conditions in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. Cropin has raised $47 million in funding and plans to expand Aksara for multiple languages and geographies in the future.
