Stop overthinking how to start with Claude. You don’t need perfect folders or polished templates. Most people spend days setting up style guides, voice files, and folder structures. Here’s a better approach. Step 1: Open your project. Start talking. No prep. No folders. Tell Claude as you go: “Save this to a .md file.” Step 2: Give guidance along the way. Show Claude where to put things. → “Save our competitive analysis to docs/strategy/” → “Document pricing decisions in docs/decisions/” → “Extract feedback patterns into docs/reviews/” You steer. Claude writes. You don’t have to pre-decide everything. One prompt keeps your files organized: “Review our docs/ folder. Suggest a reorganization. Save new knowledge in the right files and update CLAUDE·md.” Claude responds: “I’d merge voice·md and tone·md into writing-guide·md, move pricing docs to decisions/, and archive outdated Q1 notes.” Step 3: Let the structure emerge naturally. After a week, your files reflect actual work. → “CLAUDE·md is getting long - trim it to under 200 lines.” → “Check docs/ folder for outdated files.” → “Add this week’s new docs. Remove unnecessary ones.” One prompt. Claude maintains your knowledge base automatically. You wouldn’t write a PRD before talking to users. Don’t write instructions before working with Claude.
