🚀 Understanding Hypervisors in Simple Words (DevOps Learning Series) Today I learned about **Hypervisors** — the backbone of Virtual Machines and Cloud Computing. So what is a Hypervisor? A hypervisor is software that allows multiple Virtual Machines (VMs) to run on a single physical machine. It manages CPU, RAM, storage, and networking between hardware and VMs. There are 2 Types of Hypervisors: 🔥 1️⃣ Type 1 (Bare Metal Hypervisor) • Runs directly on hardware • No host operating system • High performance & strong security • Used in Data Centers & Cloud Examples: * VMware ESXi * Microsoft Hyper-V * Xen * KVM Cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) use Type 1 hypervisors internally to run EC2 instances. 💻 2️⃣ Type 2 (Hosted Hypervisor) • Runs on top of a host OS (Windows/Linux/macOS) • Slightly slower due to extra layer • Mostly used for development & testing Examples: * VMware Workstation * VirtualBox * Parallels Desktop If you’ve installed Linux inside VMware on your laptop, you’ve already used a Type 2 hypervisor! 💡 Simple Difference: Type 1 → Hardware → Hypervisor → VM Type 2 → Hardware → Host OS → Hypervisor → VM Understanding this helps in Cloud, DevOps, and System Design concepts. Learning step by step. Building strong fundamentals. 🚀 #DevOps #CloudComputing #Linux #Virtualization #AWS #LearningJourney
