Working in a startup has changed my career mindset. Initially, it was a struggle. As a freelancer, my work was mostly restricted to the B2C Arena. But as an in-house B2B UX researcher, it demanded something different. I had to understand not just users, but also their professional ecosystem and larger industry context around them. Since it's a small team i had the opportunity to interact & listen to software engineers, product team, and the sales team. It helped me to witness what work they are actually doing and, to some extent, how they are doing it. But eventually, leadership decided to wind down the startup. Our jobs were safe, and we moved smoothly to the corporate that had backed us. But that incident made me think → Why does a business need funding? → Why do people fund it? → Why do they stop it? Those questions didn't just stay questions. They helped me build a sharper lens for understanding why startups are funded and how capital actually makes decisions.
