A nice initiative by the Punjab government !! Punjab will introduce entrepreneurship as a formal subject for Class XI from the 2025–26 academic year, becoming the first state in India to make this move. The step is aimed at building entrepreneurial thinking and innovation skills among school students at an early stage. The curriculum has been designed to move beyond theory and focus on practical, project-based learning. Students will be encouraged to work in teams to brainstorm and develop business or social impact ideas. The process will involve identifying problems, creating solutions, and preparing prototypes to test feasibility. Peer-to-peer evaluation and mentorship will be integrated into the program to simulate real-world feedback systems. Teachers will act more as facilitators than traditional lecturers, guiding students through experiential learning. The curriculum will cover aspects of creativity, design thinking, problem-solving, financial basics, and communication skills. Prototyping and testing stages will help students learn how to iterate and improve ideas based on practical challenges. The program is structured to instill confidence, risk-taking ability, and leadership qualities in students. Over 2.68 lakh students across 3,840 government and affiliated schools in Punjab are expected to directly benefit from the initiative. The state aims to nurture future entrepreneurs who can contribute to local economies, startups, and employment generation. This move also aligns with India’s growing focus on innovation and startup culture as drivers of economic growth. Exposure at the school level will help students consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path alongside conventional jobs. The initiative sets a precedent that other states may adopt to integrate entrepreneurial learning in mainstream education.
