🥺😓 The story of Koo App shows how unpredictable government support can be. At first, it was promoted as an alternative, even used as leverage during policy discussions with global platforms, but later it was left without consistent backing. This uncertainty is exactly why I believe no product, especially something as critical as an operating system, should be launched solely on the basis of government confidence. We’ve already seen this with Dream11: first permitted, it grew to become the world’s largest fantasy sports platform, and is now facing restrictions. The reality is that, for now, foreign platforms are too big to be controlled in India. If you want to promote your app online but wish to avoid foreign platforms, there’s simply no domestic ecosystem strong enough to reach people across every corner, even villages. Despite our massive population, we still lack the moral and structural support from the government to build such alternatives. This is heartbreaking, because without consistent backing, India may struggle to create its own independent social media or digital ecosystem, leaving us dependent on global giants. For innovators, the best path is to build on sustainable models, user trust, and long-term market value, rather than expecting stable policy support.
