Wait… how did this brand get my WhatsApp number?! 🤯 A few days ago, I came across a post on X about a toy brand. Just out of curiosity, I searched for them, either on Instagram or Google (can’t recall which one). I browsed their page for a few minutes and moved on. And then… within minutes, I got this WhatsApp message from their store. (See screenshot) Now here’s the thing, I never shared my phone number with them. Not on their site. Not on Instagram. Not anywhere. Yet somehow, they reached me directly on WhatsApp. My first reaction? “WHAT just happened?” We all know retargeting ads follow us around after a search or visit. But a *direct WhatsApp message* without me ever giving my number? That’s next level. Creepy or smart? I’m not sure. This got me thinking, in the age of hyper-personalized marketing, where exactly is the line between “wow, this brand really knows me” and “wait, this feels invasive”? Has anything like this ever happened to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
