PayNearby: A Small Shop Idea That Went Big Not every startup starts in a fancy office some begin in small kirana shops that exactly what happened with PayNearby. Back in 2016 the founder Anand Bajaj noticed something simple digital payments were everywhere in cities but in small towns people were still standing in bank queues ATMs ran out of cash and opening a bank account felt like a headache. So instead of forcing people to learn complicated apps he thought why not use someone they already trust? The local shopkeeper. That’s how PayNearby started with just one app shopkeepers could now help customers with cash withdrawals, money transfers, bill payments even insurance for people it saved time for shopkeepers it meant a little extra income. The smart thing here is not just the technology it is the trust people may not trust a random app but they will always trust the shop they buy groceries from that is why PayNearby spread so fast by 2023 it had lakhs of shopkeepers onboard across thousands of pin codes. The lesson is clear: you do not need to build something flashy solve a real problem keep it simple and build on trust that is what PayNearby did and in the process it quietly changed millions of lives.
