The hardest part of starting a clothing brand isn’t design — it’s production. I’ve spent the last 4 years working across end-to-end apparel product lifecycle management— handling everything from selecting fabrics and trims to building tech packs, building a clothing brand goes far beyond than just adding aesthetic photoshoots on the gram. Here are my takes: -Fabric sourcing nightmares – Mills have high minimums that small brands can’t meet. Either you overspend or compromise on fabric quality, and both hurt your margins. -Tech pack confusion – A sketch is not a garment. Without a detailed tech pack, factories make endless costly samples. -Costing surprises – New brands often end up pricing their product wrong by missing tiny details like lining or thread choice. Production teaches you patience and problem-solving. It’s the part of the process that no one talks about, but it’s where brands are truly built (or broken).
