Ever been ghosted after delivering real work? In my final year at IIT Kharagpur, I was already working on the idea of PeerHire. Then something happened that gave me the momentum to push harder. Through YC’s co-founder matching platform, I met someone who said his friend needed a website and offered me $1000 to build it. I knew there was a chance it could be a scam, but I decided to take it as a real-world test. I built the website exactly how he wanted. His friend liked it and told me to do some revisions. I revised it and gave him another version. After that, he started ghosting me. The excuse was: “my friend isn’t interested anymore.” Of course, the payment never came. It wasn’t the money that bothered me. It was the fact that I had invested my most valuable resource — time — only to realize again how fragile trust is in freelancing. This incident didn’t start PeerHire, but it gave me conviction. It reminded me why a decentralized talent marketplace that enforces trust, payments, and fairness needs to exist. That’s the journey I’m on with PeerHire.

Wrote it today. Shared it with someone I trust. He liked it. That gave me encouragement to share it publicly.

You don’t trust experts. You trust that one friend who says: “Don’t go there.” “That place is trash.” “Total waste of money.” Sales works the same way. Be brutally honest. Be that friend. That’s who they buy from.
