The Real Story Behind the Name Silicon Valley In the south of Californiaโs San Francisco bay Area lies a place that changed the way the world uses technology people call it Silicon Valley because many years ago this area became the main spot for making computer chips these chips known as semiconductors are made from a material called silicon.
