Scammers are upskilling. Are we? I recently received a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to represent Tyson Foods. The message sounded exciting, they were looking to run Google Ads campaigns with a daily budget of $10,000 to $60,000, offering 12% commission, full remote work, and flexible hours. But hereโs the catch: they shared a ZIP file right away, saying everything about their business and plan was inside it. And they repeatedly asked me to open it. That was my red flag. In todayโs world, who sends business-critical information in a ZIP file over WhatsApp? No context, no proper company email, just a file. That alone made it clear to me this wasnโt legit. Out of curiosity, I forwarded the conversation to a friend of mine who has years of experience in FMCG performance marketing. I expected them to catch the scam immediately. But to my surprise, they didnโt. They even asked me to share the file so they could check it out. Thatโs when I told them it was a scam. And thatโs when I realized, if someone this experienced couldnโt see through it, imagine how many people out there are unknowingly walking into these traps. Scams donโt always look like scams anymore. They're well-written, well-structured, and sound professional. Itโs easy to fall for them if youโre not alert. So just putting this out there as a reminder, trust your gut, donโt open unknown ZIP files, and double-check everything before you get too excited about that โdream client.โ Stay safe. Stay sharp.
