On July 25, 2025, the Tea app had a major data breach. It was made to help women date safely but it failed. Over 72,000 images were leaked, including ID/selfie photos. These also included posts, comments, and message pics. More than 1.1 million private messages were exposed. Topics included abortion, cheating, and mental health. Experts say the breach wasn’t a hack it was carelessness. Tea left private data unprotected and easy to access. Some leaked photos were used on a site rating women. Others were added to maps, risking stalking and harm. Tea said only users from before Feb 2024 were affected. They claim no phone numbers or emails were leaked. The app took messaging offline and contacted the FBI. It says it’s offering help to affected users. Tea kept data it promised to delete after ID checks. That broken promise made things much worse. This shows the risk of trusting “safety apps” too quickly. When companies mishandle data, users pay the price. Detailed Article 👇
