I worked on a startup idea and did some initial research. It seemed like a real problem, so I started building an MVP. After investing a lot of time, I completed it. But friends and family said similar solutions already exist and it might not work. Now I’m wondering, was all that time wasted if I drop the idea? Even without building the MVP, research also took time. How can I avoid this kind of time loss in the future?

Firstly validate your stuff and create it. Similar solution would be available but not everything same as you your solution might have better and faster way ? First go and ask for the potential users who would use it and seek their feedback. Would they pay for it ? Would they use the application ? Did they find this solution better than others ? ask all the questions and get the answer and then think if it was waste of time or nah
