In the 1990s and early 2000s: More than 30–40% from top IITs went abroad. • Now: There’s a decline due to: • Strong startup ecosystem in India • Better opportunities in Indian tech and consulting • Easier access to US-level research via IIT collaboration This estimate applies mostly to IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, and Madras — the older IITs. • From newer IITs or less popular branches, the percentage going abroad is usually lower.
