This real business story changed my perspective on cyberattacks aftermath This online fashion ecommerce from Mumbai was doing well (25Cr. per month revenue) Thousands of daily orders. Running ads. Growing fast. One day, their backend was hacked. Customer data was leaked. Orders stopped. Refunds piled up. Trust was gone. They lost ₹48 lakhs in 3 weeks. Almost shut down. But here’s the twist: They had a basic cyber insurance policy. It covered legal fees, data recovery, and part of their revenue loss. That gave them the oxygen to rebuild. They survived because they planned for the storm. Most don’t. If you're connected to the internet, you're exposed. → It doesn’t matter if you’re a solopreneur, tech founder, or creator → One click. One fake email. One exposed password is enough → Your whole business, brand, and bank account is at risk One cyber attack can erase everything you built. Most people think cyber insurance is only for “big companies.” They’re wrong. If you run a tech startup, an e-commerce site, a small business, or even if you're just active online-you're at risk. Here’s the real problem: 1️⃣ People think it won't happen to them → “I’m too small to be a target” → “I don’t have sensitive data” → “I use strong passwords” Until it does happen. 2️⃣ Cyber insurance is misunderstood → Many don’t know it even exists → Others think it’s expensive or only for corporates → Most find it too technical or confusing So they delay. And delay. Until it’s too late. So what can you do? → Talk to someone who understands both tech and risk → Don’t wait for a breach to start asking questions → If you don’t understand cyber insurance, let’s make it simple Also-stop hiding behind your laptop. → Attend local founder meetups → Join cyber safety sessions → Ask questions in person → Build real human connections The internet can be risky. No one warns you. Startups don’t die from lack of ideas — they die from: Burnout masked as hustle Empty accounts with fake optimism Building alone while everyone else moves on You question everything. You doubt yourself daily. You still show up.
