you havenโt known real painโฆ until youโve dealt with timezones in production. on paper, it sounds simple: "just store the time." in reality? โฐ server time โ user time โฐ user A in India, user B in New York โ same event, different clocks โฐ daylight saving throws your entire logic off โฐ scheduled tasks fire at the wrong time โฐ โmidnightโ becomes a guessing game if youโre building anything time-sensitive: โ always store time in UTC โ convert to local time only when displaying to users โ clearly label times with the timezone (donโt just say โ12 PMโ) โ use reliable libraries (date-fns, luxon, moment-timezone) โ test with multiple timezones โ especially for reminders, reports, and cron jobs because nothing says โbroken productโ like a birthday email that arrivesโฆ tomorrow.
