6 months ago, I went to Bangalore for an event. This was the time when all the clips of tod fod were going viral on X. Tbh I was kinda scared. What if I go there for a day and get caught in the crossfire. All bullshit. Everybody was nice. My South Indian cab driver taught me slangs and a few nice words in Kannada. He told me that I don't have anything to worry about (ofc I was having a small talk with him about how situations are there at the time). Then I met a COO of a 10+ year old company built of Karnataka. He told me how everything that I see on social media is literally planted. Goons would coordinate with media for the places that they are going to attack. This would happen in very specific pockets of Bangalore. No one else cares. Everyone is nice. Most local store owners would speak in Hindi. A few in English. They are unbothered by who you are and where you come from. The city is filled with love and respect. I observed all of this firsthand and at the time when I had pessimistic thoughts about the culture there. Don't believe these artificially created divide you see in the news. It is in the media's benefit to exaggerate the situations and gain TRP. It is in the politician's benefit to capitalise on the chaos. Most residents are perfectly civilised. And exceptions like a few goons causing the draft for 100 bucks can be in any state.
