false marketing in finance 😞 Some fintech companies are really pushing the limits of misleading marketing these days. No names needed but you have probably seen the ones selling fixed deposits and credit cards with ads that feel too good to be true because they are. Take their 9% FD return claim, for example. Sounds fantastic right? But here is the catch they conveniently leave out that this rate only applies to senior citizens. Instead of being upfront, they hide this crucial detail somewhere in the fine print, hoping no one notices. And it doesn’t stop there mutual funds are fair game for their tricks too they love saying most mutual funds don’t even beat index returns. Sure that's technically true. But what they conveniently forget to mention is that many mutual funds still outperform FD rates by a huge margin. It’s marketing magic but not the good kind.
