What We Saw in Kolkata That Made Us Start MDW By Prasenjit Das | Co-founder, MDW Growing up in Kolkata, I’ve seen something too often — people waiting in long lines at pharmacies for basic medicines, elderly parents calling their children late at night when they couldn’t find a chemist nearby, and chronic patients skipping doses simply because it was “too much trouble” to get a refill. And this wasn’t just once in a while. This was everyday India. In a country where we can order food, cabs, and fashion in 10 minutes — why do we still have to struggle to access genuine, affordable, and timely healthcare? That’s the question we asked when we started My DawaiWala (MDW). We’re reimagining healthcare — starting with 20-minute medicine delivery and at-home wellness checkups designed for real people and real lives. Did a lot of brainstorm on this thing :- 1. There is a reason home drug delivery is still not a industry + there are all the big players in this industry ( Tata 1mg , pharm easy - many more ) 2. You get food and grocery in 10 minutes because that’s a instantaneous purchase on the other hand medicine is completely different. 3. Your competition is from local shopkeepers who give 10~20 % discount + deliver your medicine at doorstep 4. About checkup thing - one gets a checkup when prescibed by a doctor , you have to onboard clinics first who will refer you , Doing something with health - specifically medicine is a tricky business- one wrong step and brother you will be out of market .
