While the growth of global AI champions is remarkable, framing it as a dire "build or merely consume" scenario for India is too narrow. Being a large consumer can attract significant investment and R&D from global players into India. Our true strength might lie in applying AI to solve unique, massive Indian problems in healthcare or agriculture, rather than just competing in foundational models. India's vast talent pool can build champions in the AI application and services layer, which is equally crucial. The focus should be on strategic innovation, not just replicating foreign models.
