what I prefer is initially horizontal (for funding and taking risk) then switching to vertical with our own funds instead of roaming around VC'S offices

Yes that is also a good approach But what I felt is if you start with a vertical first approach you can get 1. Less compitition 2.Control over selected niche 3.Loyal consumer base and etc
