How Generative AI Will Reshape Jobs Globally - Based on Real Data Only 3.3% of global jobs are at high risk of GenAI takeover... but 25% face disruption. Here are 7 surprising takeaways from the latest International Labour Organization (ILO) May 2025 study you need to know 1. GenAI is NOT coming for everyone’s job. Contrary to the headlines, the ILO’s 2025 global index finds: • Only 3.3% of jobs are highly exposed • 25% have some exposure • Women and high-income countries are more vulnerable Transformation, not replacement __________________________________________. 2. Clerical jobs are the most exposed. Think: data entry, bookkeeping, scheduling. Why? These roles involve structured, repetitive cognitive tasks — GenAI's sweet spot. Meanwhile, jobs needing physical labor or emotional nuance remain safer… for now. ________________________________. 3. GenAI doesn’t threaten jobs — it threatens tasks. Jobs are bundles of tasks. If AI can automate some, workers will need to adapt, not disappear. For example, a lawyer might automate document review but still handle court arguments. ____________________________________. 4. Exposure = privilege? In high-income countries (HICs): • 34% of workers are in GenAI-exposed roles • Women face nearly 3x more high-risk exposure than men in HICs (9.6% vs. 3.5%) In low-income countries (LICs), exposure drops to 11% overall.
