Hey guys I have a plan of starting to freelance but I need to improve my profile. I am going to start a new project for my portfolio and also this would serve a real-time needs. First project in my mind is to build a billing software with inventory management for small and medium shops, Here I am planning to build each and every thing so that I could also learn and make it open source. Any suggestions guys will it work, Is this project worth to continue my freelancing journey???

Building your own billing software from scratch is reinventing the wheel. There are literally hundreds of open-source and paid options already available that have years of development behind them. You'd be better off contributing to an existing project or building something more unique to stand out.

This is actually brilliant for freelancing. Every developer portfolio has the same todo apps and weather widgets. A billing system shows you understand business needs. BUT - don't try to build everything at once. Start with core functions, make it modular, and you can keep adding features as your skills grow. Perfect for demonstrating continuous improvement to clients.
