Remember His startup, World (earlier Worldcoin)? , just launched in the US, a shiny silver orb scans your eyeballs, creates a unique “IrisCode,” and you get a World ID to prove you’re not a bot. Oh, and some free crypto (WLD) as a cherry on top. Sounds cool, na? World’s big pitch is to solve the “human vs. bot” problem in the AI age. With deepfakes and AI scams everywhere, Altman’s like, “Bhai, let’s scan irises to verify real log.” The orb takes 30 seconds to scan your face and eyes, creates an encrypted IrisCode, and stores it on your phone (they claim). You can use this ID to log into platforms like Reddit, Minecraft, or even on Tinder I guess. This sounds like a privacy nightmare. You’re giving your biometric data , your freakin’ eyeballs! to a for-profit company. They say it’s “encrypted” and “safe,” but bhai, yeh Digital duniya hai, leaks happen. South Korea fined them $800K for privacy violations, Hong Kong banned them, and Spain, Kenya, Germany sab ne inki band bajayi ( suru hotel hi Khatam hogaya ). They’ve scanned 12 million people globally (26 million on the app), but regulators are like, “Yeh kya data collection ka dhandha hai?” World’s trying to build a global “super app” like WeChat, mixing finance, ID, and crypto. But why should you trust them with your most unchangeable biometric? If this data gets hacked, you can’t change your eyes like a password. Plus, their growth is shady, earlier, they targeted poor countries, paying peanuts for scans. Ab US mein bhi yeh tamasha shuru. And Sam Altman’s no saint; he’s a billionaire chasing the next big thing. Yeh startup $140 million raise karke $1 billion valuation pe baitha hai, but if it flops, your data’s still in their hands.
