I would like to ask ans share following questions to our young entrepreneurs, mentors and Industry Academia experts: 1) How can academic incubation centers be helpful to shape a startup ? 2) What does lack industry to collaborate with academic institutions in India? (Non IIT and IIM) 3) Is providing only funding enough for a sustainable startup ? Please provide your answer/feedback in comment section.

You may hate it, but most academic incubators are wastes of space and government money. They try to emulate Silicon Valley without understanding the Indian market. And let's be honest, non-IIT/IIM institutions often lack the faculty with actual business experience to guide startups. As for funding, it's necessary but not sufficient. Almost all the successful startups I know outgrew their incubators quickly and succeeded DESPITE them, not because of them.

Speaking from experience, academic incubation centers were ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL to my startup's early growth. We got access to labs, mentorship from professors who actually knew our field, and connections to alumni investors. The structure and guidance helped us avoid common mistakes. I think non-IIT centers need to step up their game with more industry connections and practical business training, not just technical support.

I think Indian academic institutions (even non-IIT/IIM) actually have MORE technical talent than many Western counterparts. What they lack is commercialization experience. Industry doesn't collaborate because academics rarely understand business timelines and ROI requirements. The best incubators I've seen focus on business model validation and market connections, not just technical excellence. And regarding funding, it's like fuel: necessary but useless without a working engine and steering wheel.
