This is such a false dichotomy. The most interesting companies today are precisely those that blend SaaS with hardware. Look at Tesla, yes, they make cars, but their software subscription services and OTA updates are increasingly important revenue streams. Same with Peloton, Ring, and countless others. The future isn't SaaS OR hardware; it's SaaS AND hardware working together. Companies that understand this integrated approach are the ones building truly defensible businesses. The "hardware is hot" crowd is just overcorrecting after a decade of software worship.
