Medication mismanagement is a silent public health crisis: 1. Non-Adherence Risks: 50% of patients (especially the elderly and those with chronic conditions) fail to follow prescriptions, leading to worsened health outcomes and $300B+ in avoidable healthcare costs annually (WHO). 2. Human Error: Manual pill organizers or handwritten schedules result in missed doses, double-dosing, or incorrect timing. 3. Drug Interactions: 1.3M emergency room visits/year in the U.S. alone stem from preventable adverse drug reactions, often due to prescriber-patient knowledge gaps. Example: An elderly diabetic patient using PharmAssist receives a voice reminder to take metformin after breakfast. The system detects they’ve also been prescribed a new antibiotic and instantly warns, “This antibiotic may reduce metformin’s effectiveness—consult your doctor within 24 hours.” Meanwhile, their daughter receives a notification that the noon dose was skipped, prompting a check-in call.
