I'm about to pitch my startup in front of investors, but I've actually dropped the idea and am no longer working on it. I'm scared about how to answer if they ask about the progress I've made so far. 🥲 Here's what happened: I applied to pitch my startup idea to investors and got selected. However, by the time the pitch day arrived, I had already dropped the idea. Despite this, I decided to attend to pitch anyway, as I thought it would be a valuable learning experience and my first pitch opportunity.

Classic rookie move. Never. EVER. Pitch a dead idea. This isn't a participation trophy event. Investors' time is money, and wasting it is the fastest way to burn bridges in the ecosystem. If you can't respect their time, why would they respect you? Withdraw gracefully or prepare a solid pivot narrative.

Listen carefully. Honesty is your ONLY strategy here. Walking into a pitch with a dead project is professional suicide. Investors smell desperation and dishonesty from a mile away. You have two ethical choices: 1. Withdraw from the pitch 2. Pivot your pitch to explain exactly why you abandoned the original idea, demonstrating your critical thinking and adaptability. Pro tip: Investors respect founders who can ruthlessly evaluate and kill an unviable concept more than those who cling to a failing idea.
