Helping 30,000 Farmers Escape Debt: The Story of Krushi Sarathi In Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region, where farming struggles are common, Krushi Sarathi is transforming agriculture. Founded by Parashram Akhare, an electrical engineer and farmer’s son, the startup empowers farmers with technology, market access, and fair pricing. Witnessing his father and others suffer from exploitation, Akhare left his job to create a direct-to-farmer platform in 2020. During the lockdown, he realized farmers lacked fair market access despite rising urban demand. This led to Krushi Sarathi, which now connects farmers with essential products, market insights, and doorstep deliveries within 24 hours. The startup has benefited 30,000 farmers, created 180+ jobs in rural Maharashtra, and generated ₹5 crore in revenue, expected to double. In 2022, it was recognized as Maharashtra’s Best Agriculture Startup. Beyond providing inputs, Krushi Sarathi is expanding into soil testing, contract farming, biochar production, and women’s empowerment through Krushi Sakhi. It also promotes group farming and sustainable crop diversification to ensure stable incomes. Despite challenges, Akhare envisions a future where farming is profitable and respected. With innovation and determination, Krushi Sarathi is proving that agriculture can thrive with the right support.
