As a software development startup founded in our second year, our team of 5-10 members has been delivering effective software solutions at competitive prices in Gorakhpur. Over the past year, I have learned a great deal—skills many final-year students have yet to explore. I have always been grateful for the team we have built, but today, I came across a company that offers similar services. They have delivered over 50 Uber-like apps, 50+ e-commerce platforms, and numerous other applications and websites, yet they still classify themselves as a small firm. This has raised a few doubts in my mind: We are relatively new to the field, yet we have been developing complex projects. However, this company has already delivered 50+ projects of similar complexity. I also noticed that their portfolio does not include two types of software we have worked on—a news portal and a bill generator app—but I believe they could develop these with ease if needed. Given this, how do we truly differentiate ourselves? If highly skilled individuals are already working in these firms instead of joining large MNCs or tech giants, what does this indicate about my future? Even though I am in my second year and will be more skilled in two years, they will also continue advancing. And this is just one company—I can find hundreds of such firms with a simple search. Given this level of competition, how does someone from a Tier 2-3 college compete? What unique approaches do Tier 1 college students take that set them apart from these firms? What technologies or methodologies do they focus on that we may not be leveraging? We are already working with cloud storage, hosting, web sockets, and FFmpeg. What truly differentiates developers in Tier 1 institutions, and what should I focus on to bridge the gap?
