𝗦𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗻 : 𝗔 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 Born in 1985 in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Developed an interest in computers and programming at a young age, getting his first computer at age 8. Studied computer science at Stanford University but dropped out in 2005. Co-founded Loopt, a location-based social networking app, in 2005. Loopt was part of Y Combinator's first batch but struggled and was acquired for $43.4 million in 2012. Became a partner at Y Combinator (YC) in 2011. In 2014, became President of YC, overseeing investments in companies like Airbnb, Dropbox, and Stripe. Co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with Elon Musk, Greg Brockman, and others to develop safe AI. In 2019, OpenAI shifted from a nonprofit to a capped-profit model, securing a $1 billion investment from Microsoft. Led the development of GPT-3, ChatGPT, and GPT-4, revolutionizing AI. In November 2023, was fired as OpenAI CEO, leading to internal backlash. Reinstated as OpenAI CEO a few days later after pressure from employees and investors.
