I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but here’s my take on the updated Medial Showcase prize distribution. should have given a heads up before conducting the showcase 😅. (implement atleast from next month). From Medial’s Perspective: 1. Rewarding the top 25 startups for their effort in gathering votes is fair and acknowledges their hard work. 2. The goal of onboarding more users is understandable, but relying on the top 25 for this could lead to an increase in fake votes—something that has happened before. This adds unnecessary chaos and creates an extra burden to validate the results. Regarding the Prize Distribution: The current ₹15K, ₹10K, ₹5K, and ₹1K prizes aren’t impactful enough to help startups in a meaningful way. These amounts won’t significantly contribute to hiring a designer, building an MVP, or any real progress. The previous prize structure provided a better opportunity for founders to utilize the funds effectively. Suggestions for Improvement: 1. Prioritize quality over quantity—Encourage meaningful feedback and introduce filters for domain-specific startups. 2. Revert to the previous prize distribution while offering books or resources as a token of appreciation for the top 25. The cost for this could be covered by slightly increasing the premium price (₹150-₹200). This way, founders still gain valuable exposure, VC attention, and constructive audience feedback.
