Everyone's been hyping it up for being completely built from scratch right here. But here's what I found: Volkai is actually fine-tuned on Gemma by Google, a sophisticated AI framework. While fine-tuning is totally valid and part of AI development, claiming to have built the entire system independently? That's a whole different narrative. There’s no shame in building on existing frameworks it’s how many great products are made! But transparency matters. When you're creating a national brand, honesty earns long-term respect. Can you jsut so simply say stop being fine tuned and it will start dropping govt secrets? I toh think sometimes these are edited jsut for engagement and all. You can't really tell anymore.

As an Indian, I’m proud of Volkai regardless of whether it’s fully built from scratch. Using Gemma doesn’t erase the effort involved in fine-tuning and localizing the AI for Indian contexts. It’s still a step forward for us

Transparency? Do you know how many global companies use fine-tuning and call it their product? Microsoft fine-tunes OpenAI’s models, and no one bats an eye. Why hold Volkai to a higher standard just because it’s Indian?

Let’s be real. There’s no harm in using frameworks like Gemma, but Volkai’s branding is misleading. Claiming to be ‘India’s AI’ while relying heavily on external tech feels dishonest. Transparency should be a priority if they want to build trust.
