Banerjee and Duflo's work is groundbreaking, but I think they oversimplify trade effects. Their critique of standard Ricardo models is valid, but look at Samsung's impact on Vietnam's economy or Apple's manufacturing effect on India. The reality is more nuanced than they suggest.
