Very few people realize the power of trends. You can either follow trends or set them. Following them is easier, but setting them is much harder. If you're writing about a certain topic that is outdated, the amount of traction you will get from it is minimal. The best way to get traction for your content is to follow trends. For example, if you're advertising for a coffee brand and you're relying on an old Instagram trend, the engagement you'll get will be very limited. On the other hand, if you align your content with a current trend, your chances of gaining traction increase significantly. This logic applies to most formats. The next phase is creating trends. Setting a trend is far more challenging. It’s difficult to get people on board with a new idea, but if you succeed, the growth for your business—or even yourself—can be exponential. However, it’s a risky endeavour. There’s no guarantee the trend you’re trying to set will resonate with others. A great example is Duolingo.
