Ben Horowitz ( Author of 'The hard thing about hard things') on the ideal founding team for a startup A great founding team needs two key players: the inventor and the entrepreneur. The inventor focuses on building a product thatโs 10x better than anything else, while the entrepreneurโs job is to bring it to the market and drive its success. Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen, co-founders of Opsware, perfectly balanced these roles. Ben, the entrepreneur, had a computer science background, which helped him understand invention and lead innovation. Marc, the inventor, had deep technical expertise but also understood markets and competition. Benโs advice? Have two people who are skilled in both roles, or at least one person whoโs world-class in each. Thatโs the formula for a strong founding team. Balance invention and execution to build greatness!
