Funding Kills Focus The traditional VC model has weaknesses. In India, many funded startups lose focus on their product, shifting to flashy branding. For example, big-budget ads from startups like Lenskart or Cred often overshadow the need to deliver exceptional user experiences. On the other hand, bootstrapped companies like Zerodha have shown the power of staying product-focused. Without external funding pressure, Zerodha prioritized building a strong, reliable trading platform and grew organically to dominate its market. Earlier, capital-intensive businesses needed funding to survive, but AI is changing the game. Today, with AI tools like ChatGPT, OpenAI's DALL·E, Copy.ai, Notion AI, and Zoho AI, small teams can create scalable solutions without huge investments. This shift means funding is no longer an advantage but can become a distraction. Founders should stay product-obsessed, as consumers value quality over hype. Focus on solving problems, and the brand will follow naturally.
