Hello people of Medial! This is my first post and I'm reaching out to validate an idea I'm working on in the fashion supply chain space. Inventory wastage is a huge problem of the fashion industry and I think agile micro factories that can manufacture and deliver in short timelines is the way to solve for this. I want to test this by piloting a centrally managed vendor network that allows Print on Demand closer to the customer location. This will enable faster delivery timelines, reduce capital tied up on inventory & is sustainable at the same time. Based on the pilot response this could be scaled to enable batch manufacturing and warehousing at high demand areas enabling a stronger digital presence. - Imagine a store being able replenish particular SKUs based on customer response. - Imagine two day deliveries for Print on Demand businesses. Though, it's not Actually needed ASAP like groceries, People might opt for quality rather than fast shipping. But if you still want then there are already Shops or standard workshops, providing POD's especially for sports shops, it will be best to try initially with low Investment!!

Your idea is solid, but the real test is whether vendors and customers actually buy in. THink of a simple experiment you can run to pilot this idea to see if it will work on not. Even on a small scale

Key issues you'll face: 1. Print quality consistency across vendors 2. Minimum order quantities for blank garments 3. Local vendor capabilities vary wildly Look at how UNIQLO failed with local manufacturing in 2019. Centralized QC is harder than it sounds.
