In the list of states with the highest number of migrant workers' destinations, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal are ranked the highest, followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Previously, Madhya Pradesh held a more prominent position, but it has now been overtaken by West Bengal. Among the top five migration corridors, Bihar to West Bengal stands as one of the most popular routes. Additionally, people from Jharkhand also migrate significantly to West Bengal. A detailed analysis of migration patterns of these workers was recently published in two reports by the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council. The reports, chaired by Bibek Debroy and developed in collaboration with Debiprasad Mishra, provide an in-depth view of the dynamics of migration, illustrating how West Bengal has grown as a key destination for migrant laborers.
